Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency

For those that may not know this past Saturday, October 22, 2016, had the premiere episode of Douglas Adams’ Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.  It stars Samuel Barnett as Dirk Gently and Elijah Wood as Todd.  Even though this has been shown in England some time ago, this is the first time for people in the US.  This series also shows more on the brilliance of Douglas Adams writing.  What are your feelings on this series after just one episode?

Shada Soon to be Published!

At long last one of the five Doctor Who television stories is finally being novelized.  The story of Shada that was the only one that was never finished because of a strike at the BBC in the late 1970s.  Shada did come back as a direct to video release with Tom Baker narrating by filling in the gaps of what wasn’t filmed so we got to see what it could have been.  Alas the special effects didn’t do much apart from us imagining what it could have been, but reading about it would have been better.

Shada did reappear as a Big Finish audio with Paul McGann and Lalla Ward which was a pretty good adaptation with some slight variant to the original story.  This story was also novelized by The New Zealand Doctor Who Fan Club as well as novelizing the other four stories.

The book written by Gareth Roberts will be released in the UK on March 15, 2012 and in the US on June 26, 2012.  The audio book will be out in the UK on March 8, 2012 by BBC Audio.  Unfortunately there are no dates as to when the US will see the release of the audio book or the paperback version of Shada.  You can pre-order your copy now on Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk.  Links are provided below for all that is mentioned above.  Please note that in the UK the shada paperback has no release date, but you can pre-order that if you like.

The ITV Encyclopedia of Adventure Book

There’s something I’d like to share with everyone.  I bought this book a very long time ago from a local book store called The Book Nook, and there was a book that caught my eye.  It was called The ITV Encyclopedia of Adventure.  I was and still am in to all sorts of information about television series, and this book is one of those that really expanded on a lot of British television from the early days to the last 1980s.  There are entries from Robin of Sherwood, The Tomorrow People and even The Avengers.  Of course it’s been a while since I browsed through this book, but there’s a ton more!  If you don’t own this book, you can buy one.  I think it is well worth the price just as long as the price don’t go over say $25.

The Muppets New Movie

We’ve all seen the commercials, and the movie will start next week.  Are you ready for more Muppet mania?!?!

I’m sure you are wondering, “How are the Muppets British?”  Well honestly no one in the United States would produce the Muppets so it took a British company ITV to produce the show.  It’s good because the Muppets wouldn’t be they way they are if it wasn’t for them.

If you haven’t completed your collection of Muppets, you can do so here.

Straight to DVD Sherlock Holmes

Here’s something I didn’t realize. In the time when Robert Downey, Jr (Iron Man) was Sherlock Holmes on DVD and Blu-ray, and the BBC had their re-imagining of Sherlock DVD and Blu-ray with Benedict Cumberbatch (Amazing Grace; The Hobbit) and Martin Freeman (Hitchhikers’ Guide to the Galaxy; The Hobbit) there was a straight to video release last year.

I don’t know if the Baker Street Babes Podcast knew about this, but we got a straight to DVD release of Sherlock Holmes with Ben Syder as Sherlock Homes, Gareth David-Lloyd (Torchwood) as Dr. Watson, and Dominic Keating (Star Trek: Enterprise) as Thorpe Holmes.

It is absolutely amazing how you find little things like this! I am sure it would be very interesting to see Gareth as Dr. Watson! Perhaps it can be rented from Blockbuster or Netflix so check it out!
